Work Diary - Texture

In our texture session we were told that the sunlight would help give us the lighting to capture the textures around us. As we started this session the sun was out and i took quite a lot of texture images and then the sun went behind some clouds so we had to change topics to photo joiner but in the time given i took enough pictures. I thought that the formal element of texture was easy to capture.

This image of a brick wall is showing the hard texture of the bricks. It will be rough and jagged as each brick will not be the exact same.

I took this image of the floor and i feel it shows the roughness of the carpet. It is not a soft carpet sand is rather bobbly. I feel it shows the formal element of texture as it is showing the material of the carpet.

If i was to redo my texture session i would try and capture more pictures just to have the opportunity to have more to select my final images from.

Definition - Texture

Dictionary Definition - the quality of something that can be decided by touch; the degree to which something is rough or smooth, or soft or hard.

Words to describe texture -  rough, smooth, soft, hard, jagged, wet

This photograph is showing the texture of the wall as it looks rough, hard and jagged. This is probably due to the fact the wall is ageing.

This photograph of a kiwi is showing the different textures of a kiwi. The inside of the kiwi will be smooth and moist with hard seeds and the outer skin is furry. I feel that this image represents the formal element of texture very well.

This image is showing the texture of the leaf as it appears smooth but bumpy as there are several indents within the leaf. It shows texture well as it is clearly shows the surface of the leaf which gives us a rough idea of how the leaf would feel if it was touched.

This photograph of the brick wall is showing the jagged, rough, hard surface of the bricks. as the bricks have not been laid in a way in which they make a smooth wall.

My definition - The way something appears and the way it feels.

Definition - Shape

Dictionary Definition - 'An arrangement that is formed by joining lines together in a particular way or by the line or lines around its outer edge.

Words to describe shape - big, small, rounded, squared, irregular, regular, symmetric.

This photograph is showing shape as there is several hexagons joined together to create the recurring pattern on this building. The shape is the hexagon which is made up of several lines joined together.

This image is of the roof in King's Cross Train Station. The shape has been of several triangles joined together to create squares. I like this image as it shows the structure of the archway which has been made up of several shapes joined together.

This image of to elephants is showing the shape of a love heart as both of there trunks are positioned in the way which creates a love heart. It also has the outline of the elephants which shows the shape of them. I  like this photograph as i like the way the sunset behind the elephants make the outline stand out more.

This photograph is showing shape of a love heart and the circle shape of the ring. The way the ring has been placed and the lighting behind it combine to create the outline of a love heart.

My definition - The outline of a particular object with no regard to the content within the outline.

Image Bank - Texture

These 6 images represent texture in a variety of ways, everything has a certain texture wether it is smooth or rough, sharp or soft. The 6 images show a variety of these textures as there is a variety of objects.

Mid-Project Evaluation

I feel that so far in this project my work has improved as when we began i didn't take many pictures which limited my choice when picking the best ones, but as the project has progressed I have started taking many more pictures which is giving me a wider variety when picking my final images to take on to edit. I think the hardest thing for me to get used to is the editing of the pictures on Photoshop as i have never used the programme before but i am learning as i go. The thing i like the most about this project is going out after briefly looking at the types of photographs we need and capturing some for myself. I feel that the only thing im struggling with is the work load as there is quite alot to do for the project but i am getting it done, even though i started off on a bad foot.

Definition - Movement

Dictionary Defnition - The Cambridge dictionary states that movement is 'a change of position'

Words to describe movement ; quick, slow, blurred, dart, plunge

This image is showing movement as the surrounding landscape of trees and grass is blurred, as the photographer has captured the scene from a bike.

This dog shows movement, as the dog is running along the grass the legs appear to have disappeared but this is because it has captured the movement of the dogs limbs as it runs which we wouldn't see normally. It also captures the movement of the dog across the field as the background is blurred and the dog is in focus.

This photograph shows the movement of the sword which has been swung, we normally wouldn't be able to see the sword moving from the starting position to the end, the motion of the sword is captured before it strikes the back of the man on the floor.

This photograph captures the moving motion of the tube in front of the woman, we don't see this blur from our eyes but as the train is moving so fast when captured it is blurred.

My definition - movement is the motion of which an object moves from one location to another.

Image Bank - Photo joiner

These 6 images have been created by joining several photographs of the same scene together to still create a similar final product to a single picture taken of the scene. I like the way they capture the different lighting and angles but when put together they produce a good images.
