Image Bank - Lines

This photograph is showing a spiral stair case which is showing one larger curved line, and the stairs  on the staircase are showing separate lines which are even smaller lines that go around the whole staircase, these appear to not be straight but they are, it is just due to the structure of the staircase and angle of the photograph that they appear wonky. There is also one person who is in colour compared to every body else in the image who are black and white.

This photograph is showing Zebras cleaning each other, this is showing lines as the zebras coat is made up of several different lines, each zebra has its own unique set of lines and as the picture shows the zebra stripes are different and are unique. These lines are random on every animal.

I feel that these 6 images represent lines well as they all have a clear image and they show lines in both natural and unnatural situations. It just shows us that everything we see is made up of lines and that they are all around us. There is beauty in the simplest things, it may just be a line but there is depth to them.

Definition - Lines

Dictionary definition - the definition of a line from the Oxford Dictionary is 'a long, narrow mark or band' , and from an online dictionary 'A geometric figure formed by a point moving along a fixed direction and the reverse direction'.

Words which describe lines - lines are very basic and can be either straight, curved, zigzag, parallel, continuous, repeated, irregular, linear, ridged, wavy.

My definition - my definition of a line is a series of continuous marks which separates two areas or adds depth to an area. Every thing we see is made up of a series of lines which vary in type.

This image of lightning striking over a city is a good example of natural lines, because they are squiggly irregular lines which light up the sky with the bright flashes of static electricity. It shows the white glow of the line which contrasts agasinst the darkness of the clouds. The lines will never have the exact same pattern which make the lines unique.
This is an image of a spiders web, i thought this image was a good representation of lines because each strand and connection of the silk is a line, which have been weaved together to form the web structure, they vary in size and no line will be exactly the same. The spiders web holds a vary of lines in such as straight, curved and rounded ones. The web is actually a continuous line as it is a single bit of silk which has been sewn into the web shape but there are are no breaks in the line. The color of the white silk contrasts against the dark background.
This image shows how important lines are in architecture. The structure of the building is made of several different materials which are all in the shape of lines. This shows that things which we don't really take much notice of such as the structure of buildings are all actually made of much simpler things than we think. They also add detail to the building as they are curved so they bring some shape to the building.
This image of the beach shows both natural and man-made lines. The lines in the sad is from the waves and the way in which they have crashed against the sand before the tide has retreated, they have created naturally curvy lines in the sand. The wooden structure on the sand is made of straight wooden planks which creates a stable structure.

Work Diary - Lines

Evaluation of Line Session -  I think that finding lines to take photos of was easy as we are surrounded by lines and can find them wherever we look. As it was a sunny day it gave a natural lighting which also created shadows which was a good factor as they created lines from the reflection of objects. In the first session , i found getting the right angle quite hard as the light needed to be in the right place to create a decent image. Other than that i found the task quite easy and enjoyable.

This is one of the images which i took during the lines session, it wasn't one of one of my final images but i liked the way the bench's shadow went across the bricks of the wall, it shows both man made and natural lines. I also liked how the color of the old amber leaves contrast with the dull dark color of the brick wall.

This is another image i took from the lines session, i like the way that this shows the metal frame and the shadow of it as well, it is a structure which is made of straight lines and you can also the lines of bricks along the walls which shows the natural and man-made lines again.

Progression - If i was to re-do the lines session, i would of taken more images so i had a wider variety of images to choose from for my final images. I am happy with the images i took though but it would be good to have a wider image bank to choose from. Whilst researching lines i came across some photographs which also show movement through lines. I like the effect that this style of photograph has and i would like to try and include line in my movement photography.
