Photographer 2

Nicholas Samaras
Nicholas Samaras is a Greek underwater photographer who has been shooting photographs for about 12 years now. He is one of the most committed and passionate underwater photographers. I like his work as he presents the formal element in an exciting way as not many other photographers can capture such formal elements in the underwater scenes in which he does. I choose Nicholas Samaras for my project because i feel that his work is different and it shows the formal elements in an exciting way.

This photograph of a jellyfish is showing tone, shape, colour and lines. The bright blue colour of the jellyfish contrasts with the dark tone of the background which makes it stand out more that it would if the back ground was lighter. The shape of the jellyfish is abstract and unique, the shape of the tentacles are made up of curvy lines. I like this image as it is simple but due to the way the jellyfish is almost glowing against the background.

This photograph of this seahorse is showing form, colour and shape. The blue and green tones of the water is what Nicholas has focused on so the seahorse is of a dark tone. So all you can see is the shape of the seahorse as it contrasts with the colours of the sea. You can see the form of the seahorse as it is a dark shape in the water.
I like this photograph as i like the way the seahorse contrasts with the colour of the sea.

This photograph of a woman underwater shows her looking into her reflection on the waters surface. I like the way this photograph has been captured because it is unique and doesnt look like any other photographs.

This photograph shows a diver which is from the surface so it captures both above and below the water line. This photograph shows the formal element of shape as there are several shapes and colours and the sea contains several wonderful images.

I would like to say his work has influenced me to be extremely unique and daring with my shots, i don't think its possible to go underwater for my shots but it has definitely made me want to take more exciting photos.

I would like to try and incorporate the more daring side of the photographs but i do not think that going under water would be possible or needed for my project.
