Photographer 1

Alex Noriega
Alex Noriega is a landscape photographer who comes from Portland, Oregon. I have chosen his work for my project because I feel that he presents the formal elements in different yet natural ways. Each of his photographs show formal elements so his work is perfect for this project. Out of all the photographers I chose Alex Noriega because I felt that his work is simple and shows the beauty of nature as well as the formal elements.

This photograph is showing a dark sky over a mountain and lake landscape. It captures the variety of colours that are produced from the dark tones in the sky swell as the red of the mountain. As well as the colour, it also captures reflection. The camera angle has been done to perfection to capture the reflection at the right angle. In the reflection we are seeing the shape and colour of the mountain.

This images is showing a tent which is being lit up by what I imagine to be a light from inside the tent, other than that it is a dark scene apart from the thousands of glowing stars that a filling the night sky, they look as if they are creating a spotted pattern. Also there is the formal element of lines, this is seen in the bottom shape of the tent, the lines in the cracked ground as well. Also there is a line of lighter stars down the middle of the sky. I like this image because i like the way the tent illuminates the floor.

This image is of a rocky waterfall, it is showing the formal elements of colour as it shows the reddy colour of the rock, the green of the grassy areas and the colours of the sky which is a purpley orangey colour as it is capturing the sun setting and the sky turning into night. It also shows line as there are lines seen in the eater as it flows over the edge of the waterfall. There are also many lines and shapes in the rocks. There are a lot of different shapes in this photograph. It is also showing the movement and blurring of the water as it is rushing over the edge and down the river. It also shows depth as the two rocks look as if they are getting smaller into the distance.

I like this photograph because it shows the dry cracked ground with lightning in the background. The formal element of line is main here because there are so many different lines in the flooring weather they are little or big, thin or thick. Also the lightning in the distance is a form of colour as the bright white flash contrasts to the dark purple colour of the sky. The formal elements of shape and pattern can be found in the floor as the lines are all recurring.
Alex Noriegas work is inspiring because it makes me want to capture simple scenes but they have got a vast amount of formal elements in the scene at the same time. This is an element of which i want to include into my own work. I feel that his work has influenced me to capture contrast in colours whilst using reflection. This is one of my photographs which i feel has aspects similar to Alex Noriega's  I think it is similar to the first photograph of his  as it in his photograph there is the contrast of the red mountain and the blue scenery around it. I feel my photograph is showing the colour difference  between the concrete floor and the blue reflection from the sky in the puddle. This is also similar because the colour in Noriega's photograph is also reflected in  the water of the lake just as mine is reflected in the puddle.

In summary i feel his work has helped me with my project as it has influenced my ideas as i now want to go and shoot some large scenic shots as i feel they capture natures simple beauty by only capturing one or two colours.
